The Shire of Broome levies rates each year to fund Council's services. These include maintenance of foreshore and parks, library services, roads, health, sanitation, building control and operation of recreational facilities.
The 2016/17 Rates Notices were issued by the Shire on 19 July 2016 (with payment due by 23 August 2016) due to Council adopting the 2016/2017 Annual Budget on 30 June 2016.
Anyone owning residential or commercial property in Broome is a ratepayer of the Shire and is required to pay rates. Some government bodies, educational and registered charitable organizations are exempt from paying Council rates.
The Shire of Broome also provides a variety of services to the residents of Broome which are chargeable. This is over and above the rates charges. Some of the services include part of swimming pool testing fees, barrier inspection fees, fees for use of BRAC facilities, fees for use of Civic Centre facilities and Waste Management Facility charges. The fees and charges are determined in the annual budget. Please click on Schedule for fees and charges 2016-17 for various services provided and current fees and charges.
Council has endeavoured to provide a wide variety of convenient payment methods for its ratepayers and debtors.
