Local Commercial Strategy

The Shire has engaged Geografia to undertake a review of the 2007 Local Commercial Strategy (LCS).

The LCS seeks to ensure that Broome is provided with adequate and appropriately distributed retail and commercial floor space in the medium (2031) to long term (2051) to accommodate projected growth forecasts.

A key objective of the LCS is to ensure that Chinatown remains the primary commercial centre for Broome into the future.

The preparation of the revised LCS has involved examination of existing commercial activity, interviews and engagement with key stakeholders and Broome businesses, and analysis of commercial expenditure data detailing real spending by residents and visitors both in and outside of Broome.

The LCS report will conclude whether the Shire’s existing planning framework makes adequate provision to cater for the projected future commercial needs, and to this end, will make recommendations to guide strategic distribution of commercial floor space.
