Municipal Inventory of Heritage Places Review

The Shire of Broome has commenced a review of its Municipal Inventory of Heritage Places (MI).

The review will consist of two stages. The first stage of the review process will be a public consultation period where the community has a chance to nominate new places to be considered for inclusion on the MI, or to make comments on existing listed places.

Nominations can be made via the nomination form at the link below in writing and are to be lodged to the Chief Executive Officer, PO Box 44, Broome, WA 6725 or emailed to the Shire at Nominations will be accepted up until the close of business on Friday 28 September 2018.

Once this initial community engagement has been done, the Shire will engage a professional Heritage Consultant to undertake additional research and analysis on any new nominations or modifications to existing listings. The Heritage Consultant will also assess 15 places which were recommended to be included in the 2014 MI, but not assessed at that time.

After the Heritage Consultant has provided advice on whether any changes to the MI are warranted, the Shire will personally contact any affected landowners and give them the opportunity to provide input on the inclusion of their property on the MI, or on any changes proposed to their property’s existing listing. The revised MI will ultimately be considered, and adopted, by Council.
