Proposed differential rates and minimum payments for 2017/18

The Shire of Broome seeks public feedback on its proposed differential rates and minimum payments for the financial year 2017/18.

The proposed differential rates and minimum payments result in a modest increase of 1.75 per cent.

Continuous improvement in operating efficiencies, improved collection of fees and charges, interests on deposits, collaboration with the private sector and leveraging on government grants all contributed in achieving a general rate increase that is below current Australian CPI and lower than the two per cent identified in the Shire’s Long Term Financial Plan without adversely impacting delivery of Shire services.

The proposed differential rates and minimum payments would generate $22 million or approximately 38 per cent of the Shire’s total projected income of $57.8 million and help fund estimated total capital expenditure of $23.7 million for 2017/18.

A statement of the objects and reasons for the proposed differential rates is available at Council’s offices, corner Weld and Haas St, Broome, Monday to Friday 8am to 4pm and on the Shire of Broome website at the link below.

Written submissions from electors and ratepayers on the proposed rates and the minimum payments are invited on or before 4pm 2 June 2017.

Written submission are to be addressed to the Chief Executive Officer, Shire of Broome, PO Box 44, Broome WA 6725 or emailed to shire@broome.wa.gov.au.
