YAC providing a voice for young people

Released 8 June 2018

Broome’s new Youth Advisory Council has met for the first time.

The Shire is seeking to get young people more involved in the future of our town and earlier this year called for nominations for vacancies on the YAC for young people aged 14-24.

The YAC met recently at Town Beach and discussed a range of topics including the Town Beach Project and plans for a nature play and youth space, and tomorrow’s Broome Reconciliation Festival where members will participate in a community art project.

Going forward, members will be involved in developing and delivering events and projects for young people in Broome, and will gain leadership, work and life skills by working closely with other members, mentors and Shire staff.

The YAC is delivered by the Shire with funding support from Rio Tinto and is one of the initiatives identified in the Shire of Broome Youth Framework that guides the Shire’s involvement in youth services.
