Community to take centre stage in June and July

Released 21 May 2019

Two unique opportunities for Broome locals to take to the stage are coming to the Broome Civic Centre in June and July with Barefaced Stories and Broome’s Got Musical Talent.

Barefaced Stories is a powerful workshop series that leads into an intimate on-stage performance celebrating the power of story telling, all facilitated by Barefaced Stories artistic director, Andrea Gibbs.

Through a series of written and verbal exercises, Gibbs will help participants find their story - a story that’s worth telling and that will connect with the audience.

Participation is free and workshops take place on Saturday 15 June (10.30am-2.30pm) and Sunday 16 June (1.30-5.30pm) before the live performance at the Broome Civic Centre on Wednesday 19 June at 7.30pm, with audience tickets $15 at the link below.

Broome's Got Musical Talent is an opportunity for local amateur musicians to strut their musical stuff in front of an appreciative audience on the Pigram Garden Theatre stage and be crowned Broome’s finest up-and-coming performer.

Registration is again free and is open to solo artists and bands in two age categories (12-17 years and 18-25 years), with heats on Saturday 22 June and Saturday 29 June, and the grand final on Friday 5 July. Audience tickets are $10 at  the link below.

Broome Civic Centre venue manager, Damon Lockwood, said both events would be exciting, encouraging and engaging experiences for participants and audiences.

“If you’ve ever dreamt of performing on stage in front of a supportive audience then Barefaced Stories and Broome’s Got Musical Talent are for you,” Mr Lockwood said.

“The Shire of Broome is really excited to offer these opportunities for our community  and we’re looking forward to everybody getting on board either as a participant or an audience member.”
