Access and Inclusion
Shire of Broome Access and Inclusion Plan & Advisory Committee
The Shire of Broome is showing leadership by encompassing access and inclusion initiatives into its mainstream planning processes. As members of the community, people with disabilities and their families and carers have the same rights as other people to access Local Government services. These rights are built into State and Commonwealth legislation, which make it unlawful to discriminate against a person with a disability.
The Shire and its Disability Services Advisory Committee are responsible for the development and maintenance of the Broome Shire Access and Inclusion Plan that ensures physical access to Local Government facilities, services and amenities and developing disability specific services to assist in overcoming barriers to community participation to people with disabilities. The compilation of the 2007-2012 Plan involved extensive community consultation to ensure grassroots input and representation of current issues from people with disabilities, their families, carers and support organisations.
The Shire of Broome is committed to ensuring those members of the community with a disability have access to essential services and are included in all aspects of daily life.
