Disability Services - Shire Facilities and Services
Shire Administration
Our friendly staff at the easily accessible Shire Administration Offices are always happy to assist residents and visitors with information on accessible venues and programs. Ramps, automatic doors and clear signage make the offices easily accessible for all community members. Shire information is available in larger font upon request - please contact Shire Administration for more information or if you have any special requirements.
Library
The Broome Public Library strives to provide a welcoming, accessible and inclusive environment to all community members. Wide book isles, large print books and audiotapes, accessible front counter and Internet facilities are some of the features designed to meet the needs of users with disabilities. In addition, access to the building has recently been improved - new handrails and tactile indicators have been fitted to access steps and ramps. Library staff take an active ongoing interest in providing friendly, helpful and appropriate customer service.
Broome Recreation and Aquatic Centre (BRAC)
The Broome Recreation and Aquatic Centre pool has a wheelchair access ramp and is also the home of the Beach Trekker Wheelchair. All premises are wheelchair accessible with adequate signage and wide sliding entry doors. In 2007, BRAC staff participated in a clinic with WA Disabled Sports Association in an effort to enhance customer service.
Refuse Collection
The Shire, through the services of its contractor Kimberley Waste Services, provides a weekly household rubbish collection service. Assistance with wheelie bins for people with disabilities can be arranged by contacting the Shire Administration Centre on 91913456.
