Free Online Food Safety Training
Now available through the Shire of Broome Website.
The Shire of Broome takes food hygiene within our shire very seriously. All food businesses have obligations and the Shire of Broome is assisting food businesses to meet these obligations by providing free access to this exciting new training tool.
There is a high demand for training within the food sector. This training will assist food handlers in developing the required skills and knowledge to ensure food is handled in a safe and hygienic manner.
The program is easy to follow, includes an entertaining presentation as well as interactive quizzes. A training acknowledgement form can be printed upon completion and be kept as a part of your staff records.

Food Safety and Food Hygiene
The Shire of Broome has approximately 250 food businesses located within its jurisdiction, which include restaurants, cafes, snack bars, markets, bakeries, childcare centres and hospitals.
The Shire's Environmental Health Officers conduct routine inspections of these businesses to ensure that food they serve is safe. They also provide advice on food safety to business owners and investigate complaints about food handling and food poisoning.
Routine food inspections conducted by Environmental Health Officers involve an assessment of areas including:
- Receipt of food
- Storage of food
- Processing of food
- Display of food
- Packaging of food
- Transportation and distribution of food
- Recalls/food disposal
- Health, hygiene and knowledge of food handlers
- Condition and hygiene of food premises.
