Chinatown Development Strategy Review

The Shire is working with local businesses and landowners to revamp the 2003 development strategy for Chinatown.

Council has engaged expert consultants, Hassell and Gilbert Rochecouste of Village Well who are work with businesses, landholders and other stakeholders to collectively develop a vision and road map to help plan Chinatown’s future as a great place to live, visit, work and play.

Why is the strategy being reviewed?

The Shire has given priority to this review in recognition of the critical importance of Chinatown and its businesses to Broome’s identity and prosperity.

With Broome continuing to grow, it is important and timely to promote Chinatown’s bright future as the regional business, cultural, entertainment and administrative centre.

Cable Beach Development Plan Review

The Shire has commenced a review of the 2003 Cable Beach Development Plan and other tourist zone policies affecting the main tourist area of Cable Beach. An expert planning and urban design consultant, Roberts Day, is assisting the Shire to develop a vision for this significant tourism precinct. A workshop with key stakeholders was held on 21 June 2011. A draft revised Development Plan will be released for public consultation.
