Broome Overview
At the Shire of Broome, Economic Development develops strategic initiatives and partnerships with industry sectors across the region, while implementing specific plans and capital projects designed to promote the future economic prosperity of the Shire.
The Broome Economic Development Department currently encompasses economic development, events and capital projects; including securing grant funding from various sources to create development opportunities in the Shire.
Economic Development is also responsible for attracting new and desirable businesses to the Shire whilst providing support to existing businesses to help them grow.
Services available to businesses include:
- Providing guidance and support to business in understanding the Economic profile and demographics of the Shire and Kimberley region.
- The Economic Development team can also provide the latest demographic information to assist with informed business decision making.
- Assistance with business planning, facilitating contact with industry bodies and associations who can assist your business.
- Directing businesses to the relevant policies and departments within the Shire to provide early guidance to business concepts.
- Making new and existing businesses aware of the relevant Local, State and Federal programs, initiatives and contacts who can provide advice and information as well as grant or financial assistance to your business. This includes; Broome Chamber of Commerce, Royalties for Regions, The Kimberley Development Commission, The Department of Agriculture and Food, Water for Food, Northern Beef Futures, Federal Government Developing the North programs, Small Business Development Corporation and Kimberley Small Business Support.
- Provide guidance and advice of various marketing and networking activities or opportunities to participate in our economic development programs and initiatives.
- Provide information on growth sectors and future business opportunities based on global and regional trends to attract investment into the Shire of Broome such as Logistics, Agriculture, Horticulture, Tourism, Aquaculture, Marine Services, Construction, Government Services and Education and Training.
- Facilitate access and build awareness of reports and data from various sources and organisations such as the Economic Development Australia (EDA), Committee for Economic Development Australia (CEDA) and Industry best practice operators and case studies.
- Facilitate participation in networking events such as the Shire of Broome Business Breakfast Series.
- Management and liaison with the Shire of Broome Economic Development Advisory Committee.
