The sale or supply of liquor at a function (where the serving of liquor is ancillary to the purpose of the function) is exempt from the Liquor Control Act 1988, provided:

  • the total number of attendees over the entire course of the function does not exceed 100 and the service of liquor lasts a maximum of 2 hours (continuous), commencing no earlier than 6 a.m. and finishing no later than 10 p.m. on the same day; or
  • the total number of attendees over the entire course of the function does not exceed 75 and the service of liquor lasts a maximum of 4 hours (continuous), commencing no earlier than 6 a.m. and finishing no later than 10 p.m. on the same day.

Certain events will also require a liquor licence from the Department of Racing, Gaming and Liquor. This includes any event where alcohol is being provided or sold, however you should contact the Department of Racing, Gaming and Liquor on 1800 634 541 or visit www.rgl.wa.gov.au to determine if a liquor licence is required for your event.

The event organiser is responsible for ensuring that any areas used for your activity are left in the manner in which you found them. All decorations, rubbish and associated equipment used for the event are to be completely removed from the area. Please note that any damage caused to Shire property will incur a fee.

Yes, certain reserves and public spaces have power and water access points available. Please see location descriptions for power/water availability. Additional charges/bonds may apply and a key may be required.

Unless you’re a registered food vendor, you will require a temporary food permit if you’re selling food at your event.

If you are serving food free of charge then a permit is not required, however we ask that you notify us in the event application in the unlikely scenario that a complaint is received. This also includes gold coin donations as it’s not technically being sold.

If a caterer has been hired/paid to supply food, then we need to be notified of the caterer to ensure that they’re a registered food vendor.

You do not require a permit when accessing north of the rocks or the 500m zone of Gantheaume Point. All other areas of Cable Beach are prohibited and require a permit.

Please note:

To limit the impact of vehicles on nesting turtles in Broome, the Cable Beach north vehicle access ramp (adjacent to the Cable Beach Amphitheatre) will be closed at night to vehicles throughout the turtle nesting season from 8pm to 6am, October 1 to November 30, 2022 and from February 1 to March 1 2023.

Cable Beach will also close to vehicles two hours either side of the high tide when it is 9m or greater.

A total vehicle closure will be in place annually during all hours from December 1 to January 31.

As the event organiser you must investigate and arrange public liability insurance to cover your event. To assist you in this process, please complete the event risk calculator, which will advise on the level of mandatory insurance.

Insurance companies/brokers can be found in the yellow or white pages of the telephone directory or online. The Shire will not approve an event without the required level of public liability insurance coverage.

Other types of insurance may also be relevant to your event, including but not limited to:

• Workers Compensation Insurance;

• Volunteers’ Insurance;

• Motor Vehicle Insurance;

• Public Liability Insurance of any sub-contractor;

• Public Liability Insurance and contact details of all participants in the event; and

• Event Cancellation Insurance.
