Security Incentive Scheme

As part of the Shire of Broome’s Community Safety Plan, a new Security Incentive Scheme (SIS) will start in August 2021.

The Shire is acutely aware that public safety is a concern in Broome – this was a common theme in the 2020 Community Perceptions Survey.

While not the core function of a local government, the Shire is committed to playing a role in keeping our community safe.

Through the SIS, the Shire will offer rebates to residents who purchase home security products. This will initially be a trial.

The rebate will cover 50 per cent of the cost of purchasing the security product (75 per cent for seniors and healthcare card holders), with a maximum reimbursement of $275 (including GST) - the following devices are eligible:

  • CCTV cameras
  • home intruder alarms
  • door deadlocks
  • keyed window locks
  • security sensor lights
  • security screened doors
  • security window screens

The Shire has developed an easy-to-use form for residents to apply for the rebate – it is at the bottom of this page.

Shire officers will assess applications and notify applicants if they have been successful or not.

Successful applicants will have three months to purchase and install their device of choice, before providing a receipt to the Shire for reimbursement.

Please note – the above process must be followed for applicants to be eligible – the Shire will not retrospectively reimburse applicants who install their security products before applying or being notified that they are successful.

There will also be a limit to how many applications are approved per month.

To check on the status of your application or for more information, contact the Shire on shire@broome.wa.gov.au or 9191 3456.
