Code of Conduct

Council Members, Committee Members and Candidates

A local government, in accordance with Section 5.104 of the Local Government Act 1995 and the Local Government (Model Code of Conduct) Regulations 2021, is required to prepare and adopt a Code of Conduct to be observed by Council members, Committee members and Candidates.

The Code of Conduct provides for:

Overarching principles to guide behaviour
Behaviours which are managed by local governments
Rules of conduct breaches which are considered by the Standards Panel.

Employees

In accordance with Section 5.51A of the Local Government Act 1995 and Part 4A of the Local Government (Administration) Regulations 1996, a local government is to have a Code of Conduct for Employees approved and implemented by the Chief Executive Officer.

The Shire of Broome Code of Conduct for Employees sets the standards of behaviour that employees are to observe in relation to their conduct.

Model Code of Conduct and Model CEO Standards

A local government, in accordance with Section 5.39A(1)of the Local Government Act 1995 and the Local Government (Administration) Regulations 1996, is required to prepare and adopt a Model for CEO Standards that provide a framework for local governments to select a CEO in accordance with the principles of merit, equity and transparency.
