Community Consultation - Development Proposal for a Community Step Up Step Down Facility in Broome

The Mental Health Commission is seeking comment from community members regarding a development proposal for a site located on the corner of Clementson Street and Dora Street in Broome.

The WA Government has committed to build and operate a Community Mental Health Step Up/Step Down Service in Broome.

The facility will be based on similar designs to existing facilities in Joondalup, Rockingham, Bunbury, Geraldton and Kalgoorlie. The exterior appearance will be of a modern residential development, with individual living units around a landscaped communal open space and an administrative area at the entrance.

The proposed facility will provide the service in a residential setting for a maximum of 6 people. Eligible guests can stay for short periods (up to a maximum 30 days) for mental health care.

The service does not provide alcohol or other drug treatment or rehabilitation programs and is not a crisis accommodation service. It will be operated by a suitably experienced Non-Government Organisation (NGO) appointed by the Mental Health Commission and staffed 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.

Further information is available by clicking here(PDF, 574KB).

Public comment on the proposed development closes at 5pm on Monday 17 January 2022.
