Draft Local Planning Policy for Public Comment

The Shire of Broome has prepared a draft Policy to facilitate the coordination and operation of a Design Review Panel and is seeking public comment.

The Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage and the Office of the Government Architect recently reviewed its Design of the Built Environment policy framework through the DesignWA process.

Through this process, the Western Australian Planning Commission adopted the Design Review Guide and State Planning Policy 7.0 – Design of the Built Environment (SPP7.0) (Attachments 2 and 3 respectively).

The Design Review Guide recommends local governments establish a Design Review Panel (DRP). Design review is the process of independently evaluating the design quality of a built environment proposal. It is carried out by a panel of appropriately trained, multi-disciplinary built environment professionals, who are experienced in offering objective and constructive design advice.

A copy of the draft Policy is available for viewing at the related information section of this page.

Its is also available for inspection and public comment at the Shire Administration Building, Weld Street Broome and will be open for inspection during normal office hours (9:00am to 4:00pm) from 11 November 2022 up to and including 2 December 2022.

Submissions on the proposed policy may be made in writing and lodged to the Chief Executive Officer, PO Box 44 Broome WA 6725 on or before 4pm, December 2, 2022.
