Broome residents are requested to nominate their local heroes for recognition in the prestigious Community Citizen of the Year Awards, to be held on Australia Day in 2022.

Every year the Shire heralds local champions of the Broome community on January 26 for their selfless acts and remarkable achievements.

There are four categories in the awards that people can be nominated in – Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year, Senior Citizen of the Year and Group or Event of the Year.

The Australia Day winners in 2021 were Jac Coltman (Young Citizen of the Year), Jan Lewis (Senior Citizen of the Year) and Linley Cilia (Citizen of the Year).

Shire of Broome president Harold Tracey said our town was blessed to have so many selfless people and called on the community to nominate the individuals and initiatives that had undertaken great work this year and deserved acknowledgement.

“The Broome community is unique and we have fantastic community spirit - it is important to recognise those that keep this town thriving,” he said.

“Last year’s winners showed acts of bravery, commitment and loyalty to our community and these are attributes I see from locals everyday in Broome.

“With the events and initiatives that have taken place over the past year, there is no doubt there are countless people that deserve recognition on Australia Day 2022.”
