The Broome Public Library relaunched Beach Books at Cable Beach earlier this month, which will run each Wednesday through June and July.

A selection of free books will be on offer, using the books that are donated to the library for community use.

Giving the surplus books away for free means the life of the books is extended and they can be enjoyed all over again.

This initiative has been operating since 2013, with its primary purpose to engage those who might not visit the library usually, informing them of our library’s services.

People are invited to read at their own leisure and return the book to the library or swap it out for another beach book. Alternatively, people can keep the book, or swap with a friend or fellow traveller.

Shire of Broome president Harold Tracey said relaxing with a book at Broome’s world-famous Cable Beach sounded idyllic.

“Since the beginning of Beach Books, 1800 books have been given away,” he said.

“The success of Beach Books is a real credit to our library staff.

“Results from our 2020 Community Scorecard revealed Broome’s library services recorded the highest performance score in the Shire.

“Initiatives such as Beach Books and the positive results from the Scorecard is what keeps the Broome Public Library held in such high regard by our community.

“Please join our friendly library staff at Cable Beach and take part in this year’s Beach Books fun.”

Beach Books at Cable Beach will run from 10.45am – 11.30am every Wednesday, for June and July, with a stall set up at the top of the beach stairs next to Zanders.
