The Shire of Broome heralded the achievements of three selfless community members at this year's Australia Day event at Town Beach on Wednesday.

The winners were:

‘Community Citizen of the Year Award for a Person Under 25’ - Annabella Thompson.

Annabella was the winner of the Rising Sports Star of the Year award at last year’s Broome Sports Awards for her achievements with the Little Athletics Club.

Annabella has represented Broome at countless state competitions, often competing against athletes that are older than her.

In addition to her stellar sporting achievements, Annabella helps as a junior coach at the club and is a role model for other Broome youngsters.

‘Community Senior Citizen of the Year Award’ - Chris Mitchell.

Chris is the Lions Club of Broome president, but he contributes so much more to our community.

Chris is a selfless volunteer for the Broome Native Animal Rescue organisation, which serves the community by caring for sick, injured and orphaned wildlife.

He is also a long-term Shire of Broome Councillor and has represented our town in numerous other regional and state bodies.

Chris is a well-loved member of the Broome community who contributes so much to our great town.

‘Community Citizen of the Year Award’ - Jude Millard.

Jude has led the Broome Tri Club into national recognition over recent years and has brought professional athletes to Broome to compete.

She is a very proactive community member who volunteers her time to fundraise for worthy local causes.

Jude also runs a successful daycare centre and is a prominent Broome community member who is respected for her role in our town.
