The Chinatown Revitalisation Project is reaching major milestones, with the refreshed areas of Broome’s town centre starting to take shape.

The project, which is co-funded by the Shire of Broome and State Government, promises to rejuvenate one of our town’s most historic precincts.

More footpaths are being installed on Short Street West, with the retaining walls to be progressed further also.

Short Street East is starting to really take shape, with more pavers to be laid this week.

The continued construction of the new road alignment for Napier Terrace West is progressing, with drainage culverts also being installed.

Napier Terrace East will have new reticulation implemented, with temporary fencing to start coming down in this area soon.

Carnarvon Street North is looking good, with shade structures and kerbing set to be completed soon, while street furniture and footpaths are set to be installed.

Shire of Broome deputy president Desiree Male said the project was making good progress.

“The construction crews are working hard to keep on track and to budget, and hopefully community members can start to see how this work is going to improve our town centre,” she said.

“Thank you for your patience and understanding as the work is completed.

“I’d urge the community to continue to Buy Local and support impacted retailers, while the latest information is available on our website at www.chinatownbroome.com.au or on the Chinatown Broome Facebook page.”
