The Shire of Broome is undertaking a community survey as part of its review of waste and recycling services – with feedback from residents and businesses a critical component of the process.

Waste management in Broome is undergoing major changes. The Shire’s only landfill is coming to the end of its operational life and plans for a new, best-practice Regional Resource Recovery Park are under development.

The Waste Avoidance and Resource Recovery (WARR) Strategy was released by the WA Government last year to guide the State in becoming a sustainable, low-waste circular economy.

The key focus is to generate less waste, recover more value and resources from waste, and protect the environment by managing waste responsibly.

The Shire of Broome is committed to following this framework and as such a Waste Strategy is required to guide the local direction and resourcing of waste management through to 2030.

Shire of Broome president Harold Tracey said feedback from the community was required to shape the Waste Strategy.

“Issues such as illegal dumping, littering, recycling and new kerbside services are some of the topics covered in the questionnaire, which will only take 3-5 minutes to complete,” he said.

“We are keen to receive as much feedback and engagement from Broome’s residents and businesses as possible.

“Your input is important in shaping the Shire’s future vision and actions – please take the survey today.”
