The Broome community is invited to celebrate Australia Day 2022 at Town Beach, with an inclusive event to be held on January 26.

Organised in partnership between the Shire of Broome, Lions Club and other local service providers, the event is a celebration of the Broome community.

The Lions Club will be putting on a breakfast, starting at 8am, while there will be fun and entertainment for all the family – including free train rides for the kids.

This year we will welcome 27 new Australian citizens and the special address will be by our Australia Day ambassador Jenny Lam.

Ms Lam is a dynamic West Australian entrepreneur, who was a 2018 Masterchef Australia contestant.

The citizenship ceremony is followed by a presentation of the 2022 Community Citizen of the Year Awards, with winners to be announced in the senior, youth and community member categories.

Shire of Broome president Harold Tracey said Australia Day would be the first community event of the year and was a cause for celebration.

“Australia Day each year is a time for the Broome community to come together to celebrate what is great about living in this country, living in Broome and what we love about being Australian,” he said.

“We invite everyone to help us celebrate this special day with food, fun and entertainment – thank you to those community members and organisations that make this event happen each year.

“This event is a time to welcome new Australians and celebrate the existing Australians in our community.

“It is great to have Jenny Lam as our Australia Day ambassador this year; we hope her successes inspire the Broome community.

“Broome is a such a special place and a wonderful town to live in, work in and visit; Australia Day is another excuse to celebrate exactly that.”
