With Western Australia’s COVID-19 restrictions relaxing, it has been noticeably busier in Broome in recent weeks.

Welcome intrastate tourists are starting to visit the region, in a boost to our local businesses that have suffered so much in recent months.

The Shire of Broome is delighted to see our amazing town thriving once more – with the semblance of a dry season thankfully now being witnessed.

Chinatown, the heart and soul of Broome, has started to come alive, with the Shire working to activate the space in recent weeks.

Throughout July, talented musicians have been taking to our streets to serenade shoppers and diners, with our great local artists adding to Chinatown’s flavour.

Children’s activities have also been taking place during the school holidays, with face painting and drawing workshops keeping our youngsters entertained.

The Chinatown Ladies’ Night event, in its third year, is scheduled for Friday, August 7, with a fabulous evening of socialising, fashion and shopping deals promised.

With restrictions on gatherings loosened, the Broome Civic Centre also has a host of shows, performances and events scheduled for upcoming months.

This includes the hilarious comedy hypnotist Matt Hale, an iconic Bohemian Rhapsody Queen tribute and a number of events throughout the Shinju Matsuri Festival.

Shire of Broome deputy president Desiree Male said she was delighted to see town back buzzing.

“While COVID-19 and the associated restrictions disrupted Broome’s usual social and events calendar, it is great to see our town busy and feeling alive again,” she said.

“The Shire is committed to providing an action-packed and exciting second half to 2020, with plenty on offer to residents and tourists alike.”
