The Shire of Broome has reached 50% concept design for the Cable Beach Foreshore Redevelopment project this week, with a new website launch today, that will be the information hub for the project.

Cable Beach is a world-class tourism attraction that would benefit from improved infrastructure and the Shire has plans to redevelop the foreshore to enhance the precinct’s amenities.

Award winning landscape architects Josh Byrne & Associates have been appointed to undertake detailed design services for the project and have a 50% concept design available for the community to review.

Image renders released today paint a picture of an inclusive community space, featuring - water play, green space, a bigger and better amphitheatre for events, opportunities for local small businesses and improved functionality and views of our iconic Cable Beach.

The Shire is welcoming the community’s involvement in the 50% concept design phase. We have formed a Community and Stakeholder Reference Group, which includes representatives from Nyamba Buru Yawuru (NBY) and Yawuru lore bosses.

A number of community information sessions and staffed displays around Broome are planned for this week, including a Community Picnic at the Cable Beach Foreshore where Josh Byrne of ABC’s Gardening Australia, will be sharing the ideas behind the future precinct.

Shire of Broome president Harold Tracey said he was impressed with the 50% concept design and encouraged the community to provide their feedback.

“The Broome community had extensive input into the Cable Beach Foreshore Masterplan and on a number of other occasions throughout this process in recent years – your feedback is key to the project design,” he said.

“Once completed, this new universal space will ensure everyone in our community; locals, families and tourists alike – can enjoy Cable Beach all year round.

“It has been fantastic to see people enjoy our recently revitalised precincts such as Town Beach and Chinatown – we want to create another amazing space for our community at Cable Beach.

“We have an iconic beach on our doorstep – the Shire wants to create an iconic foreshore to do it justice.”
