The Shire of Broome has completed significant works at the Broome Cemetery, but is calling for feedback from the community as to what priorities should be focused on moving forward.

The Broome Cemetery 2020 Draft Master Plan has been compiled, with a period of public consultation now open for residents to have their say on the document.

A number of potential new features are on the table for discussion, but feedback from the community is critical to prioritising future work.

These include perimeter fencing, CCTV, upgraded signage, parking options and memorials, among other things.

Work already completed at the Broome Cemetery this year includes the sealing of internal roads, kerbing and installation of a memorial garden.

Shire of Broome deputy Shire president Desiree Male said the Broome Cemetery was an important historical and cultural site but there was a need for upgraded infrastructure and amenity.

“The Shire understands the importance of the Broome Cemetery to the community and knows there will be some strong views in relation to the project,” she said.

“Our team have done a great job already this year and the site is looking much better after the completed work.

“Community feedback is an important component of this project and I’d ask residents to give us direction in relation to priorities.”

Hard copies of both are also available at the Shire Administration Building, which is based at the corner of Weld and Haas Streets.

Public consultation will run until November 6.
