The second Ordinary Meeting of Council for 2021 is set to take place on Thursday, March 25, with a number of interesting items for Councillors to vote on.

The Shire's Community Development Framework and Informing Strategies will be presented to Councillors for endorsement, with the documents detailing potential future plans for community safety, youth and Town Beach management.

The draft versions of these documents were advertised for public comment in late 2020, with public feedback taken into account in the final versions.

To read the proposed plans and strategies, look for item 9.1.1 in the March OMC agenda.

Item 9.2.1 includes a proposed amendment to the Local Development Plan to provide a framework for future development at privately owned land at Lots 1648 and 9050 MacPherson Street.

At this stage no development applications have been received but if adopted the decision would accommodate future service commercial development on the site.

Item 9.2.2 will see Councillors consider the 2021 Landfill Closure Management Plan.

With the Shire currently engaged in a Community Review process for a new Regional Resource Recovery Park, the existing Buckley's Road Waste Management Facility is due to be closed in coming years due to reaching capacity.

Councillors will be asked to adopt the minutes of recent meetings of the Bush Fire Advisory Committee and Local Emergency Management Committee.

Finally there are three items that are proposed to be discussed behind closed doors for financial reasons:

  • Request for Funding Assistance - Broome Visitor Centre
  • Disposal of Property - Kimberley Regional Offices Building 2 Tenancy
  • Sundry Debtor Write Off

The Council Meeting will take place at 5pm on Thursday, March 25 at the Shire's Chambers. Members of the public are welcome to attend.
