The Shire of Broome has recently completed the construction of a new 44-bay carpark in Town Beach to assist with increased demand across the precinct.

This has come at a great time for the 2021 Shinju Matsuri Festival, which ran from August 22 to September 5.

The Shinju Festival Hub, Opening Ceremony and Closing Ceremony were all located at Town Beach this year and the additional parking helped accommodate the extra traffic in the area.

Our popular Town Beach Night Markets and monthly Staircase to the Moon Night Markets create a lot of hustle and bustle in the Town Beach precinct and in the past, this meant there were a large amount of vehicles parking on verges - this new carpark will alleviate pressure on verge parking.

The construction was completed by Shire resources with assistance from local contractors.

The project was fully funded by the Australian Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program. Planting of shade trees and lighting of the carpark are scheduled to take place and complete the project.

Shire of Broome president Harold Tracey said the new carpark tied the precinct together.

“Town Beach is an in-demand part of Broome and it is exciting to see the Shire’s vision to enhance all precincts across our town continue to occur,” he said.

“Town Beach is a space that can be enjoyed by our whole community, as well as the many visitors we welcome to our town at this time of the year - the addition of this carpark means more people can enjoy the space.

“This new carpark also increases public safety, as it offers a safe well-lit avenue for people to enter and exit their vehicles at night when the large amount of Town Beach events are occurring.”
