Pioneer Cemetery is currently undergoing works to install a commemorative entry wall and two concrete seats.

The installation took place this week under the watchful eye of Trace Archaeology, who have previously conducted a ground-penetrating radar survey to assess for remains outside of the cemetery gravesites.

They joined the team in Broome during the installation, overseeing the minor ground disturbing works near to the cemetery.

The entry wall shows information about the cemetery and a map to show the locations of the graves and their occupants.

The concrete design displays a carved poem, ‘Lost Footsteps’, written by HW Talboys. There are also two bench seats positioned on the eastern side of the cemetery hill.
