The Shire of Broome has restricted public access to the proposed youth bike precinct, with a site investigation process underway.

The site is set to be transformed into a Youth Bike Precinct as part of the Shire’s ongoing commitment to providing sporting infrastructure and youth services.

However, initial site investigations by contractor Site Environmental and Remediation Services (SERS) showed that additional investigations are required before the site can be disturbed any further.

The preliminary report on whether asbestos or any other harmful substances are present at the site is due in the next two weeks and in the meantime the Shire is erring on the side of caution – and has blocked access to the site.

It should be noted that there is no risk to people using the Pump Track.

We will keep the community informed of updates as they emerge.
