Shire Rangers have completed the 2020 fire mitigation program and have found compliance to be at a high level.

A massive congratulations to Broome’s residents for the outstanding efforts put in this year.

Due to COVID-19, Rangers were innovative in the approach of completing inspections and utilised a helicopter to identify 25 rural properties out of 229 that required an on-ground inspection.

The urban area was reduced to 11 on-ground inspections out of 407; this minimised the timeframe of the program to a four-week turnaround.

Rangers have worked with property owners who have had challenges due to being overseas or out of the State and engaged contractors to get the work done in a timely manner.

There has been a progressive improvement over the years, starting from 10 months in 2017, with two rangers on the inspection program.

Approximately $25,000 in staff wages, plus the time of two months, were saved by refining the technique.

Feedback from property owners this year has been positive and supportive towards gaining the outcome of 100 per cent compliance throughout the Shire of Broome.
