Broome’s only fun run event is returning for 2021, with athletes getting ready to lace up their running shoes on Sunday, June 27.

Registrations for the BRAC 2 Beach Fun Run are now open, with the popular event returning this year after being cancelled last year due to COVID-19 restrictions.

Participants can opt to take on the 4km or 8km courses and the event can be completed as a walk, run or wheelchair event.

Perfect for seasoned athletes or first-timers, there will be awards for category winners and the best dressed sporting club, community organisation or workplace.

The BRAC 2 Beach Fun Run comes hot on the heels of the final Dash & Splash event of the series, which took place late last month.

Shire of Broome deputy president Desiree Male said these events were popular with Broome’s sport-mad community.

“It has been great to see residents turn out for the Dash & Splash series in recent months, with plenty of kids and first-timers participating,” she said.

“Participation in sport locally has boomed in recent years and I’m expecting another big turnout for the BRAC 2 Beach Fun Run.

“I’d encourage all newcomers and first-time participants to give it a go, as both courses can be tackled at your own pace.

“Events like this can forge community spirit – it should be a really fun day.”
