Responsible pet ownership - have your dog on a leash

The Shire of Broome values pet ownership and actively promotes this to benefit the community and the welfare of pets.

Dog owners are reminded that dogs are required to be on a leash at all times when in a public place.

There are currently no parks within the Shire that are “leash free”. Rangers are out and about in our community and on-the-spot fines may apply when dogs are off-leash in a public area.

The Shire does provide leash-free dog exercise areas:

  • 1km north of the rocks at Cable beach access ramp
  • The area north of the access ramp at Gantheaume beach

Please remember that leash-free areas are not for the exclusive use of dogs and their owners. Be considerate of people that may be sharing this area with you and your dog, or using this area after you leave.
