Visitors to Shire of Broome facilities will need to take part in mandatory COVID-19 contact tracing registers, starting from Saturday, December 5.

The State Government has rolled out the SafeWA app to help monitor attendees at sports settings, hospitality venues and certain businesses.

From this Saturday, attendance registers will be placed at Broome Recreation and Aquatic Centre, Broome Public Library and Broome Civic Centre.

People can download the SafeWA app on their smartphones and simply scan the QR code located at each of the venues to help health authorities trace their whereabouts, should there be a COVID-19 outbreak.

Paper-based registers will also be available at the Shire venues for those without a smartphone or who would prefer to fill out their details manually.

Shire of Broome President Harold Tracey said the registers would provide minimal disruption or inconvenience to those attending local facilities.

“The way COVID-19 has been managed has allowed us to access community facilities for the majority of 2020 – not everywhere has been so lucky,” he said.

“However, a sensible and cautious approach is still the best course of action, especially as interstate travellers start to make their way to Broome and the rest of Western Australia following changes to the state’s border arrangements.

“Patrons will not be able to access our Shire facilities without registering their attendance first, either through the SafeWA app or the paper-based register.

“I’d ask people to get on board with this new normal in a bid to keep us all safe.”
