The Shire of Broome is offering a financial helping hand to the town’s not-for-profit organisations, sporting groups and charities, with grants of up to $10,000 now available.

The latest round of the Annual Community Matched Funding program opened on February 5, with applications welcome until close of business on April 6.

This program has been devised to assist community-based organisations within the Shire of Broome for the development of social, cultural, economic, recreational, environmental or reconciliation projects and initiatives that benefit the local economy.

Local groups are invited to apply for a one-off grant of up to $10,000, which should cover 50 per cent of the project’s cost.

The event or project being funded should be scheduled to take place between June 2021 and June 2022.

Shire of Broome president Harold Tracey said the town was lucky to have committed and selfless not-for-profit groups locally.

“Community organisations, sports groups and charities play a big role in shaping the social fabric of regional towns and in Broome we have some amazing groups and individuals,” he said.

“Successful recipients in past years have organised great community focused events and initiatives – there are so many worthy causes locally that the Shire would love to support.

“I’d encourage eligible groups to reach out for more information and apply if they have a project or event in mind.

“We also thank energy supplier EDL for its commitment to Broome and its financial contribution through the West Kimberley Community Fund”.

A portion of the available funding is made possible through a partnership between the Shire of Broome and EDL.
