Broome’s next generation of leaders had their say on local issues and provided invaluable ideas at an innovative event earlier this month.

The 2022 Game Changers YOUTH HACK, organised by the Shire of Broome and Year13, was held at the University of Notre Dame on April 7.

Around 40 teenagers from Broome Senior High School and St Mary’s College attended the event, which included a series of small workshops and inspirational speeches.

Shire officers are currently working through the feedback and ideas provided by attendees, before presenting a report to Council and the community.

Members of the Shire’s Youth Advisory Council participated and will also be involved in processing the feedback received.

Shire of Broome president Harold Tracey said the feedback from the YOUTH HACK was overwhelmingly positive.

“The YOUTH HACK was a great chance for our local Broome people to tackle issues that impact them, come up with ideas to improve our town and drive change,” he said.

“Our Council is always open to hearing new ideas and wants more community input – it is fantastic to be able to get feedback and contributions from our next generation.

“I look forward to reading the final report compiling all the feedback from the YOUTH HACK and hopefully the Shire can take some of these ideas on board to enact positive change.”
