Are you becoming an Australian Citizen or looking for information on how to? On this page you will find useful information and links to assist you in this process.

Citizenship Ceremonies

The final step in the journey to become an Australian citizen, for most people, is to make the Australian Citizenship Pledge at an Australian Citizenship ceremony. Once your application has been approved, you will be invited to attend your ceremony.

Citizenship ceremonies are special events. They fulfil requirements under Australian citizenship law. They also provide an important opportunity to officially welcome new citizens as full members of the Australian community. They are often an emotional experience for the new citizen, as well as their host and guests.

Attending your ceremony

Once your application has been approved, you will be invited to attend your ceremony where you will make the Australian Citizenship Pledge.

Generally, your ceremony will be held within six months from the time your application is approved, although waiting times can vary. You will receive a letter or email of invitation from the Shire of Broome.

Australian Citizenship Pledge

Most people are required to make the Australian Citizenship Pledge at a citizenship ceremony. In doing so you are making a public commitment to Australia and accepting the responsibilities and privileges of citizenship.

You can choose between two versions of the Pledge, one that mentions God and one that does not.

Pledge 1

From this time forward, under God,

I pledge my loyalty to Australia and its people,

whose democratic beliefs I share, whose rights and

liberties I respect, and whose laws I will uphold and obey.

Pledge 2

From this time forward

I pledge my loyalty to Australia and its people,

whose democratic beliefs I share, whose rights and

liberties I respect, and whose laws I will uphold and obey.

Organising a ceremony

The Shire of Broome holds a number of Citizenship Ceremonies per year. If you would like more information on these ceremonies please contact the Executive Assistant to the CEO on (08) 9191 3456.
