Funding to boost initiatives that benefit Broome community

The Shire of Broome Council has pledged to provide almost $60,000 of funding to assist local community-based organisations through the Annual Community Matched Funding (ACMF) program 2021-22.
Eleven community organisations will share $57,502, with the money to support the development of social, cultural, economic, recreational, environmental, and reconciliation projects and initiatives that benefit the Broome community.
The ACMF Program for 2021-22 was funded by the Shire and Energy Developments Limited (EDL) - West Kimberley Community Fund.
The funds have been provided to help facilitate projects occurring between June 2022 and June 2023, with up to $10,000 granted to cover a maximum of 50 per cent of total project costs.
This year’s recipients included Broome Historical Society, Native Animal Rescue Broome Inc, Theatre Kimberley, and West Kimberley Junior Football League.
Broome Historical Society’s project ties in with the special anniversary we commemorated this year - the 80-year anniversary of the Broome Air Raid.
The Historical Society plan to undertake conservation treatment to the Air Raid Dornier Engine.
Shire of Broome president Harold Tracey said the initiatives supported by the ACMF grow knowledge, appreciation and involvement in local art, culture and heritage.
“Applications have been prioritised if the initiative is new, the organisation attracts volunteers, and the organisation has met the eligibility requirements,” he said.
“This ensures when the ACMF round is delivered each year that we are sharing funds to different worthy causes and it is going to new ideas and experiences for our community to enjoy.
“Additionally, it fosters a healthy, active Broome community – through volunteer support and recognition.
“I am looking forward to seeing the outcome of this year’s initiatives and wish them all the best in their endeavours.
“Finally, I would like to thank EDL for their kind contribution, for the betterment of our community.”
The successful recipients are listed below.
Successful Annual Community Matched Funding 2021-22 recipients
• Broome Historical Society - $10,000 for conservation treatment to the Air Raid Dornier Engine.
• Broome Lotteries House - $4,700 for the Broome Chilli Festival.
• Broome Sports Association - $5,000 for the Broome Sports Awards.
• Broome Tri Club - $3,384 for Broome Tri Club is SunSmart
• Broome Junior / Senior Motocross Club Inc - $2,848 for a garden area to acknowledge Traditional Owners
• St Martin De Porres School - $950 for a sewing project for Worn Art – Guwan Dragonfly (Pearl Dragon)
• Theatre Kimberley - $10,000 for the Sandfly Circus Show 2022.
• West Kimberley Junior Football League - $5,720 for goalposts for the future.
• Broome Men’s Shed Inc - $1,900 for an outdoor workspace shade awning.
• Lions Club of Broome - $4,000 for Shinju Dragon Lights.
• Native Animal Rescue Broome Inc - $9,000 for marine turtle rescue unit.
