Wet weather shifts attention to verge maintenance
Published on 20 March 2024
Wet season weather conditions mean local gardens and grassed areas grow very quickly so Shire staff are working hard to maintain public places.
Our hardworking parks and gardens crew maintain public reserves, sports ovals and most of the rest of Broome’s Shire-owned land.
It also mows verges on selected main thoroughfares such as Guy Street and street corners where lines of sight are an issue, and is scheduled to begin this work on March 29.
The Shire can't mow every verge in Broome so, when prioritising works, our staff look to identify areas of risk and as such prioritises road corners to ensure sight lines are clear and monitor areas close to school routes for obstructions.
Across Western Australia, verge maintenance is the responsibility of the occupier or owner of the adjacent home or property. The Shire’s verge maintenance policy outlines these requirements.
If you feel there is a verge or corner that requires Shire attention for safety reasons, please submit a customer service request.
