The Shire of Broome has formally adopted its Youth Plan 2025–2029 at the Ordinary Meeting of Council held on August 28.

The Plan sets out a clear vision to ensure young people in Broome feel valued, supported and empowered to shape their future. It was developed through engagement with the community, including a dedicated local Youth Forum with Broome Senior High School and St Mary’s College, stakeholder interviews, engagement stalls and feedback on the draft strategy.

Over the next four years, the Shire has committed to being a strong voice for young people—backed by action. The Youth Plan prioritises safe spaces, better access to health and wellbeing support, more opportunities for sport and recreation, and greater encouragement to explore art, music and culture. It also focuses on supporting pathways to jobs and personal growth and strengthening connections between young people and the services that support them.

Shire President Chris Mitchell said the Plan reflects the voices of young people and the organisations that support them.

“Our young people told us they want more activities, easier access to health services, and stronger opportunities for learning and jobs,” Cr Mitchell said.

“This Plan delivers on those priorities, with a focus on practical projects that will make a real difference in the lives of young people.”

The Youth Advisory Council and local schools played an important role in shaping the Plan, alongside community service providers and stakeholders who shared their expertise and ideas.

The Youth Plan 2025–2029 will serve as a practical roadmap to strengthen youth services, facilities and opportunities, ensuring the voices of young people continue to shape the future of Broome.
