Potential Changes to Pedestrian Access

No longer on display. Expired on 17 February 2024, 12:01 AM

A review of Shire vested/owned Pedestrian Access Ways (PAW) and Accessways was undertaken by Shire officers in 2016 and the outcomes of that review were presented at the Ordinary Meeting of Council (OMC) held on 15 December 2016. That report recommended that a number of PAWs and Accessways were closed throughout Cable Beach and Broome following community engagement being undertaken.

At the OMC held 24 November 2016, Council resolved to adopt the first Community Safety Plan (2016-2019). An updated Community Safety Plan (2021-2025) was adopted at the OMC held 25 March 2021. This plan included the action for Shire Officers to Facilitate a strategic review of the laneway and drainage network

This review has now been undertaken and was adopted at the OMC on 16 November 2023.

Recommendations from this review included to seek community feedback on whether the following action should be undertaken;

  1. To close off the drainage reserves at the end of Puertollano Place and Placanica Place to pedestrian movement;
  2. To remove the fences and open each of the cul-de-sacs at Cox Place and Martin Court to allow for pedestrians to move from these streets to Matsumoto Street; and
  3. To remove the fences and open each of the cul-de-sacs at Nightingale Drive, Crawford Close and Howard Place to allow for pedestrians to move from these streets through to Port Drive.

The Shire of Broome welcomes community input and feedback on the above proposals to help inform whether further action should be taken.

Please provide your comments to the Shire in writing by no later than 16 February 2024 by emailing  shire@broome.wa.gov.au. If you have any questions please contact Chloe Patterson on (08) 9191 3456.
