The Shire of Broome is seeking community representatives to provide input into the Cable Beach Foreshore Redevelopment project.

Detailed plans for the redevelopment of the Cable Beach Foreshore are due to commence following the Shire appointing Josh Byrne and Associates as the preferred contractor to undertake the design work last month.

Cable Beach is a world-class tourism attraction and the Shire has plans to redevelop the foreshore to improve the amenity, functionality and appeal of the area.

Shire Councillors adopted a Community Engagement Plan for the project at September’s Ordinary Meeting of Council, which will include the creation of a Community and Stakeholder Reference Group.

This group, which will meet on a regular basis as the detailed design phase progresses over the next 12 months, will be made up of stakeholders and community representatives.

Shire of Broome chief executive officer Sam Mastrolembo said there would be extensive community involvement as the Cable Beach Foreshore Redevelopment progressed.

“The Shire has already had a number of community consultation and submission periods in recent years through the process of compiling a Cable Beach Development Strategy, Masterplan and Business Case, and we are committed to involving the community through this next phase of the project,” he said.

“Through establishing a Community and Stakeholder Reference Group, we are ensuring that the community is taken on the journey, has access to the latest information in relation to the project and can provide input.”

Once completed, the Cable Beach Foreshore Redevelopment will include much more generous greenspace, play space and community friendly areas, which will be focal hubs for events and include opportunities for local small businesses.

Other features include a new promenade, an amphitheatre upgrade, the renovation of the Broome Surf Lifesaving Club and the provision of new and improved access options to the beach.
