They are the selfless individuals that help organise and run community events and initiatives – and the Shire of Broome would like to say a big thank you to them as National Volunteer Week approaches.

As part of the Australia-wide recognition event, the Shire has organised a free movie event for Broome’s volunteers and their families at Sun Pictures.

A screening of the feel-good flick June Again will take place on Friday, May 21 at 5.45pm.

The Shire has also partnered with Broome CIRCLE to present a sundowner event called R&R&R by the Bay on May 19 from 4-7pm in the Broome Museum Courtyard.

Shire of Broome deputy president Desiree Male said local volunteers were the lifeblood of our community and played a major role in the social fabric of our town.

“It takes a special type of person to volunteer their time and effort to a worthy cause, without the expectation of payment – sometimes it can be a thankless task,” she said.

“Broome is so lucky to have a community of wonderful residents that are dedicated to making our town a better place to live, work and visit.

“The National Volunteer Week events are a great opportunity for us to stop and recognise all those people that contribute towards the greater good.

“As this year’s National Volunteer Week approaches, I’d like to say a massive thank you to all local volunteers from the Shire of Broome Council.”
