Broome Shire Councillor Nik Wevers has provided notice of her resignation from Council in accordance with Section 2.31 of the Local Government Act.

Cr Wevers was first elected to Council in 1999 and served for 10 years, five as Deputy Shire President.

She was re-elected in 2019, where she again worked tirelessly to serve the Broome community.

Shire of Broome Chief Executive Officer Sam Mastrolembo wished Cr Wevers well and thanked her for her service to the Broome community both as a councillor and through various community groups, and said her passion and advocacy for Broome will be missed on Council.

The vacancy created will not necessitate an extraordinary election, with the position being held over until October 21, 2023, when the next Ordinary Local Government election will take place.
