Shire of Broome Rangers will be stepping up their presence at local beaches, with new security patrols in place starting from today.

With the current influx of people to town, our beaches have been very busy in recent weeks and months, with unfortunately not everyone doing the right thing.

Along with several vehicles being caught by the tide, Rangers have witnessed speeding on the beaches and unpermitted fires.

From today, Rangers and a security contractor will be present across numerous locations, including the Cable Beach access ramp, primarily to educate beach goers - but infringements will be handed out to people doing the wrong thing.

The Shire would like to remind people heading to the beach that:

  • The speed limit for vehicles driving on both Cable Beach both near Gantheaume Point and north of the rocks is 15km/h.
  • Dog owners must keep their pets under control, even while they are in an off-leash area.
  • Horses exercise on Gantheaume Beach from 5am-10am each day. During this time period, dogs must be kept on a lead for the safety of the horses and their riders.
  • You cannot light a fire on any local beach without a permit.
  • Noise restrictions apply.

Broome has amazing beaches that are there for residents and visitors to enjoy, but the rules are in place to ensure the safety of everyone.
