Broome’s vibrant creative community was on full display at the Festival Fiesta — the official opening event of this year’s Broome Fringe Festival, proudly supported by the Shire of Broome through initiatives from its Arts and Culture Strategy.
Hosted by local arts organisation Kimberley Arts Network (KAN), the event brought together an array of Broome’s talented artists for an unforgettable evening of creative activations, dance, spoken word poetry and vocal performances.
Held at the iconic KAN Shed, the Fiesta provided a platform for local creatives to shine, offering audiences a unique and diverse showcase of Broome’s artistic spirit.
The Shire of Broome was proud to support this vibrant celebration of local talent. Shire President Chris Mitchell, alongside Councillors Jan Lewis and Ellen Smith, attended the event and addressed the crowd.
“We are incredibly proud to support KAN and the Broome Fringe Festival through our Arts and Culture Strategy,” Shire President Chris Mitchell said.
“The creative community is a vital part of Broome’s identity, and tonight we have witnessed the passion and talent that our local artists bring to our town. On behalf of Council, I sincerely thank and acknowledge each of the artists involved for their contribution to Broome’s cultural life.”
KAN’s Executive Officer, Clancy McDowell said the night was a great success.
“The Fringe Festival ‘celebrates the grassroots creative community of Broome’, and this Fiesta really showcased our local talent. The art activities, performances and energy on show was created by KAN’s partners, collaborators and friends. They made this night really spectacular.”
KAN’s Festival Fiesta served as a vibrant launchpad for the broader Fringe Festival program, which celebrates independent, grassroots arts and culture across the region.
The event’s success reflects the growing energy and collaboration within Broome’s creative sector — something the Shire of Broome is committed to fostering through ongoing partnerships and support.
