The Shire of Broome has welcomed last week’s announcement of $6 million federal investment in the Cable Beach Foreshore Redevelopment project.

Member for Durack Melissa Price has confirmed the Shire’s funding application for the major infrastructure project has been successful, through the Building Better Regions Fund.

After positive upgrades at Town Beach and in Chinatown, the Shire is turning its attention to the Cable Beach precinct.

Detailed plans for the redevelopment of the Cable Beach foreshore are due to commence following the Shire appointing Josh Byrne and Associates as the preferred contractor to undertake the design work.

Cable Beach is a world-class tourism attraction and the Shire has plans to redevelop the foreshore to improve the amenity, functionality and appeal of the area.

Shire Councillors adopted a Community Engagement Plan for the project at September’s Ordinary Meeting of Council, which will include the creation of a Community and Stakeholder Reference Group.

Following the announcement, Shire of Broome chief executive officer Sam Mastrolembo thanked Minister Price and the Federal Government for its commitment to the project.

“The Federal Government has been a fantastic supporter of Broome over recent years, with our collaboration to overhaul the Broome Golf Club facilities a fantastic example of different tiers of government working together for the greater good of the community,” he said.

“The detailed design phase of the Cable Beach Foreshore Redevelopment project will refine the work the Shire has undertaken through the Cable Beach Development Strategy, Masterplan and Business Case – with community input an important component of the project.

“The redevelopment of Cable Beach foreshore will be another component of the continued positive evolution of our town and provide a fantastic new space for our community to enjoy.”
