8 Brocades of Silk - Tai Chi workshop
Conducted by Chief Instructor Geoffrey Moss
Shaolin Baduanjin in Chinese literally means ‘eight brocades of silk’, reserved for royalty in the past. It is a set of ancient Chinese Qigong which literally means ‘air work’ exercises for promoting health and wellbeing.
Qigong originated from ‘dao yin’, which is a set of health promoting exercises encompassing stretching and breathing.
The earliest depiction of ‘dao yin’ was found in the Mawangdui ancient tomb dating back to the Han dynasty. Some of the postures are very similar to the exercises in Baduanjin today.
This Shaolin Baduanjin targets common ailments and purifies the body and the mind.
This Shaolin form is from the northern school of martial arts handed down from patriarch Gu Yu-Zhang to present day Grandmaster Lung Kai Ming and Master Sarah Chung of Hong Kong.
The event will be held at the Broome Civic Centre. For more information and to buy tickets, click here.
