Shire Administration

Our friendly staff at the easily accessible Shire Administration Offices are always happy to assist residents and visitors with information on accessible venues and programs. Ramps, automatic doors and clear signage make the offices easily accessible for all community members. Shire information is available in larger font upon request - please contact Shire Administration for more information or if you have any special requirements.  

Library

The Broome Public Library strives to provide a welcoming, accessible and inclusive environment to all community members. Wide book isles, large print books and audio CDs, accessible front counter and Internet facilities are some of the features designed to meet the needs of users with disabilities. Entry to the building is accessible with handrails and tactile indicators fitted to access steps and ramps. Library staff take an active ongoing interest in providing friendly, helpful and appropriate customer service. 

Broome Recreation and Aquatic Centre (BRAC)

The Broome Recreation and Aquatic Centre pool has a wheelchair access ramp and aquatic wheelchair with harness to ensure people of all abilities can access the pool. All premises are wheelchair accessible with adequate signage and wide sliding entry doors. BRAC accept ‘Companion Cards’, which allow free entry to card holders who accompany a person with disability. A Disability Concession entry rate of $3.50 has been introduced to ensure the services are affordable for all. Disability Learn to Swim instructors are on site to conduct private lessons.

Broome Civic Centre

The Broome Civic Centre has been designed to ensure ease of access for all patrons with ramps and wheelchair accessibility into and throughout the building. The Centre has a wheelchair available for patrons to utilise when required.

Two personal lifts located on each of the stage wings allow easy access to the stage. The Jimmy Chi Hall has also been fitted with an induction loop for the benefit of those who rely on hearing aids. Disabled toilets and showers are located within the centre for patrons and performers.

Refuse Collection

The Shire, through the services of its contractor Cleanaway, provides a weekly household rubbish collection service. Assistance with wheelie bins for people with disabilities can be arranged by contacting the Shire Administration Centre on 08 9191 3456.
