The Shire of Broome’s Waste Management and Resource Recovery Strategy 2026–2030 guides how we manage waste, improve recycling and plan for future waste infrastructure.
The Strategy replaces the Broome Waste Strategy 2021–2031 and Waste Action Plan 2021–2025, bringing updated priorities and practical actions together in one document.
Developed with input from the community and key stakeholders, the Strategy responds to the challenges of managing waste across our large and remote Shire. It focuses on improving services, recovering more resources and supporting financially sustainable waste management.
Key priorities include:
Progressing the Regional Resource Recovery Park and planning the transition from existing waste facilities.
Improving kerbside recycling and investigating options for green, organic and bulky household waste.
Reducing litter and illegal dumping.
Supporting waste reduction through community education and engagement.
Working with regional partners and advocating for improved waste services in remote Aboriginal communities.
