Step inside Nanna’s home for an intimate and immersive theatre experience exploring family, memory, truth-telling and connection.
Scones with Nanna is a site-specific production where audiences journey through 100 years of Western Australian history as Nanna shares her scattered memories, advice and family traditions while navigating the shrinking world of dementia.
Set largely around the kitchen table, the performance invites audiences to become part of the story itself, with Nanna recognising familiar faces among the crowd and sharing direct moments of connection throughout the performance. Traditional scones are served as part of the experience, adding to the warmth and intimacy of the production.
The play explores themes of identity, loss and intergenerational trauma, including the impacts of the 1905 Aboriginal Act and the denial of Aboriginal ancestry.
Following each performance, audience members are invited to meet the cast and participate in a Q&A and debrief session.
This production contains discussions and themes that may be distressing for some audience members, including references to hidden identities, denial of Aboriginal ancestry, adult themes and swearing. Images of deceased people are also featured. Viewer discretion is advised and the performance is not recommended for children.
